SWOT analysis generator

An honest look at the business, on one page.

The honest answer, not the interview answer. This section is the only reason to do a SWOT.

Only the weaknesses matter

SWOT has a reputation as a box-filling exercise, and usually deserves it. Strengths get flattering, opportunities get optimistic, threats get vague, and nothing changes.

The section worth the hour is weaknesses. Everything else you already know. The value is in writing down the thing you have been avoiding — the quotes going out late, the fact that nothing happens when you are ill.

The threat most trades share

Two turn up again and again: the business stops if the owner does, and one customer or contractor represents too much of the turnover. Both are invisible while things go well and catastrophic when they do not.

Neither is fixed quickly, which is exactly why they are worth naming early. A written note that one builder is 40% of your turnover is what makes you answer the next unfamiliar inquiry properly.

It is only useful if something follows

A SWOT that ends as a document is a wasted hour. The output is worth something only if one weakness gets an owner and a date attached to it.

Pick one. Not four. The one that would change most if it were fixed, and do that before revisiting the grid.
